A centralized location for all parents, teachers, students and community members to discuss how to go forward. The reconfiguration was struck down but we know that there is more work that needs to be done so all children in Chatham County Schools receive quality education.

Suggestions from Teachers
How do we find budget cuts within the classroom? How can parents & community members help supplement potential cuts?
a) I want class room cuts to be a last resort - not next resort. I don't think we are there yet.
b) We need to look at non-classroom cuts first. We know there is low hanging fruit in central office. Let's pick that before going to the classroom. This may buy us a year. This will be discussed in March and settled in April.
c) We can't do everything on the cost side - we need more revenue - increased taxes, school bond etc. We subsidize a low county tax rate with an underfunded school system. Ultimately you get what you pay for. When the state money runs out, stimulus runs out, CO has been "pruned" - we'll be faced with either increasing revenue or decreasing class room staff, services. The new commissioners said they will fully fund our school system - I'm not sure what that means exactly, but I think we'll be finding out at some point in the not too far away future.
thx for the blog.
